Those leaving California have many reasons to do so. One of the biggest reasons has to do with the cost of living. With the highest state income tax in the country, California comes with an expensive price tag to live here, not to mention everything from rent to groceries is higher than most other states, it is no wonder people are looking elsewhere to live.

Texas, however, offers a lot of things California cannot. Living in Texas offers a much lower cost of living when it comes to buying a house and everyday life. The current real estate available in Texas allows you to buy the same house in Texas as you would in California, for half the price. It is also one of the few states that does not have a personal state income tax.

Texas also has a much more promising job market all throughout the state compared to California.

Long-Distance Moving Checklist

There is a lot to plan when it comes to your move to Texas or any other long-distance move. Three important things to consider are:

  1. Transportation: If you rely on things such as buses, trains, subway, or taxis as your way of getting around, check the city you are looking to move to and see what kind of public transportation is available. If there is not much in your area, it may be time to purchase a vehicle of your own.
  2. Education: If you have kids, it is important to make sure that the area you are moving to has the best education possible for your kids. It will also be important to enroll them before your move.
  3. Location: Do your research on whatever city you may have your heart set on to ensure it is the best possible choice for you and your life. Is it close to your work? Does traffic effect your commute? Is the neighborhood vibrant or quiet? These are just a few things to consider in your research of Texas cities.

The Lone Star State is known for doing everything big, and looking at their growing population in all their bustling big cities, it is no doubt that it just keeps getting bigger. With so many places to explore and experience, Texas has something for everybody. Here is a list of some of the most popular cities in Texas:

Houston: If you are looking to live in a city but are worried it will cost you more than you can handle, Houston is a great option. Houston is more affordable than other metropolitan areas, and with higher salaries in this area, it can leave you with more cash in your pocket. The city also houses many inner waterways giving you a chance to live on the water if you like.

San Antonio: This city is known for being one of the most family-friendly metropolitan areas both in Texas and the country, so if you are looking for a place to settle your family, San Antonio is ideal. The median home price in this area is also lower than the national average making it easy to find a new home for a great price.

Austin: Austin has been one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country for many years now and it is easy to see why. The city offers an array of entertainment options such as food trucks, restaurants, shopping, exciting nightlife, live music, and more. Austin also has a prominent music and arts scene for those looking for a city full of creativity.

Waco: If you are looking for a city with a small-town feel, Waco has that. Waco also has many different historic sites and museums to visit such as the Dr. Pepper Museum or the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum.
